He had lost her.
He could hardly believe it. After all that effort, all that planning, all that time spent, his research was dangerously close to be compromised. He’d been so careful, everything had gone to plan, and then… he’d lost her. Obviously, he’d underestimated her mother. And he couldn’t approach her, not with the mother in the picture. She might figure out his plan, and he couldn’t risk that.
Then again… if the mother intended what he thought… this might not be a total loss. Certainly, it introduced a new random factor into his experiment, but… yes, this line of research had potential, as well.
He’d wait. The mother would leave eventually, and then, he’d plan his next move.
